She walked in as a client. She left as the subject of her own story.

There’s something that happens when a woman decides to step in front of the camera—not for a headshot, not for a holiday card, but purely for herself. That’s exactly the energy Candy brought when she booked her portrait session with us, and the results? Absolutely stunning.

Before we ever touched a camera, Candy and I connected online for a styling session. We talked about outfits, accessories, and colour palettes—the whole vision. What should she wear to show off the fun, sporty side of her personality? (A woman who golfs, plays pickleball, and has a passport full of stamps has range.) What pieces would feel most authentically her? That pre-shoot conversation is one of my favourite parts of the process because it sets the tone for everything—it’s where the story begins.

On the day of the shoot, Candy settled into the hair and makeup chair of the incredibly talented Madison Gagnon. And here’s the thing about the makeover experience at Abelle: you’re in charge. Madison’s skill is only matched by her ability to listen, and Candy had full say over every brushstroke and curl. The result was a look that felt elevated and polished—but unmistakably Candy. She was pampered, glowing, and ready. What started as a little nerve-wracking (because, honestly, who isn’t a little intimidated by a camera?) gradually transformed, pose by guided pose, outfit change by outfit change, into something genuinely joyful. That’s the magic of the process — by the end, the camera doesn’t feel like something to fear. It feels like a conversation.

Madison is at work.

Happy Woman’s Day to every woman who is active, curious, vibrant, and fully herself—just like Candy. These portraits are a collaboration between Candy’s warmth and authenticity, Madison’s artistry, and the space we create together at the studio for women to show up and be seen. If you’ve ever thought about doing something like this for yourself, consider this your sign. There is no expiration date on being seen, and you are worthy of it, now more than ever.

Actors’ Headshots Shoot: Part 1

Oh, to be young again. This young man reached out to me to get professional headshots so he could try something new. It isn’t like his life isn’t full already. He’s a third-year university student in kinesiology and a star basketball player. He works full-time in the summer while running private and small-group basketball clinics for young children and adults.

Drive, ambition, discipline, and grace are qualities that this young future leader and professional demonstrates.

The first challenge was to make him look approachable and natural. It was tough because the shoot could easily turn into a GQ model or a Sports Illustrated magazine cover photo. Toning it down was the name of the game.

The second challenge was to recreate natural sunlight, which is very common for this type of photography session: an actor’s headshot photo shoot. It was dark outside due to the storm, so using “sunlight-in-a-can” setup (Godox V1 and Godox 860 VIII) and a gold reflector, we photographed the various outfits and looks.

I mostly photograph women in business or casual attire and in wedding gowns. I’m experienced with photographing female curves in many different styles and settings. It isn’t that I do not enjoy photographing men; it is simply that men don’t often require professional portrait photography services.

I’m glad to be reminded that the skills required to photograph someone’s personality and soul are the same. As usual, it took us about 15 minutes to provide the directions and explanations for posing and to get more comfortable in front of the camera. After that initial period, we were finally cooking with gas! By the time the last images were shot, I hardly had to direct him at all. Like a pro, E.M. hit that last image out of the park.

Winter Wedding at Strathmere

For M & S, this union was significant on so many levels. This wasn’t your typical ceremony but a celebration of love, family, and rich heritage.

For them, the wedding was a way to thank their friends and family for being a part of their lives. They wanted to treat their guests to a fun day, filled with good food, drinks and laughter.

Laughter filled the air as the couple exchanged vows, their Scottish accents weaving a thread of tradition throughout the ceremony.

February days are short, so I had to take the Godox flash kit out for a spin.

As a portrait and wedding photographer with a career spanning over 25 years, I am selective with the weddings I take on. Each love story deserves to be documented carefully, and this winter wedding resonated deeply with me. Capturing the joy on the faces of the newlyweds, their children, extended family and close friends filled me with immense gratitude. Witnessing these intimate moments and translating them into lasting memories is a privilege. As long as my stamina, my creativity, and my cameras will allow me to do so and as long as engaged couples will invite me to join them for their big day, I will gladly oblige!

Love winter weddings. Here’s another one held at the Chanteclerc in the Laurentians years ago.
