We met on a very rainy Friday in June of 2017. Back then, Cheryl was the owner-manager of a Golf course where the WMB Kingston hosted their annual Summer Kick-Off event At the end of the evening, she had won a portrait session with us as part of the door prizes draw.
She called about a year later. Lots had happened in her life. We spoke on the phone and discussed how she wanted to be photographed. She wanted to celebrate a new chapter in her life and celebrate life itself. This delicate and elegant woman overcame cancer in the last few years.
She now dances just for fun almost daily. She is saying yes to opportunities and invitations all of the time and her positive and vibrant energy is contagious. Take a look for yourself and scroll down…
On my quest to reduce my use of plastic, especially single-use plastic, I found this product right in my neighborhood. I came across Priscilla, owner, and beekeeper, at yoga. She was gifting these wax-covered wraps to the owner-teacher-yogi. I inquired about these and found out that she was the maker of these gems and had them in stock.
These wraps are useful and cute and they smell nice.
These are the large-sized wraps which I use most of the time.
I also got a few of these packets. They contain a mix of seeds of plants that attract bees. They make great hostess gifts for people who don’t drink wine.
This is a kit containing a wrap in each of the three sizes: small, medium and large.
Isn’t the bee-shaped wax seal on the back of the packaging the cutest?
The large 13″x13″ completely covers my medium-sized bowl and is perfect for large bowls as well.
You can order these online at Madebybees.ca
So long plastic wrap!
This next photo shoot, actually photo shoots, is of a gorgeous family of 5. Made up of three little boys who are full of beans, a mom and a dad, a dog and chickens. There is never a dull moment in this household.
Only a few weeks after delivering baby number 3, she was out on the ski hill with the two oldest boys.
Then came boy number 3: Grayson.
When I met them this Fall, they were just finishing some major home renovations including an entire addition. Where they find the energy, I don’t know. All I know is that this family is GORGEOUS, friendly, funny and authentic. I love them to bits.
People often ask What do you do? “I am a photographer’ isn’t enough“. This is what I do: I photograph connections and love and give families heirloom images of moments. Portraits that will stand the test of time. It is an honour and a privilege to do this for people and their families.
This woman is a force to be reckoned with. I am grateful our paths crossed and that I was able to have her come in for a photo shoot. To say we had fun is an understatement. We would do this every week!
During our pre-shoot consultation, she warned me a number of times that I would be challenged with a strange smile that was way too large and squinty eyes. Well, I looked for those traits and they didn’t show up. All I could see was inner beauty, grace and light. What about you? What do you see?

She booked this photo shoot for many personal reasons. However, professionally these images are significant. She is redesigning her life as a mother, a wife, a friend, a business professional and a woman.
This session revealed a number of things: that she is a woman and not the tomboy she may be perceived to be; that she is not only smart but attractive; that she has more strengths than she thought and, that the camera loves her.
Stay tuned. This soulful professional is about to take on the world.
This young woman and I go back. Way back. So far back, she may not remember me from that time. Late 1990s in fact. She was a smart, polite and vivacious teenager with a positive attitude. Her mother was a source of motivation for me at the local gym; she had a holistic approach to fitness and well-being. When I photographed J & X, in Montreal, a few weeks ago, I couldn’t help but be reminded of her mother’s smile and positive energy in the images.
I also wasn’t surprised to see that she had chosen a wonderful life partner. How could she choose otherwise?!I feel blessed: I witness beautiful moments in couples’ lives and have the pleasure of documenting them. Here are a few precious images announcing their big day to come in September.

Rewind to July 14, 2012. One of the warmest days on record. A & C tied the knot at Auberge des Gallant. I went through 2 sweat wristbands and drank 3 liters of water in one afternoon photographing their wedding.
Fast forward to 2015: V is a newcomer to this beautiful, funny and endearing family. It was time for new family photographs so that’s what we did last Sunday morning.
These images were created with the wonderful help of dogs, a bubble gun and a sippy cup.
She is a mother, a wife, a teacher and a writer. She pushes young minds to do their best; to work hard and to reach for the stars. She inspires young women to be all they desire to become. She is a great cheerleader and cares for so many around her. She truly is an inspiration to me.
So without hesitation, J. said yes to this beautiful hair and makeup makeover followed by an elegant portrait photography session held at our boutique apartment. Expert Sharon, an experienced and talented hair & makeup artist, created this natural look for J. I then guided her through this professional photo shoot.
I think now may be the first time I feel the difference between looking beautiful and being beautiful. This talented and creative writer IS beautiful, inside and out.
I love quotes, so I thought I’d throw this one in (makes me sound smart): “Poetry creates the myth, the prose writer draws its portrait.” – Jean-Paul Sartre
